Advanced Contractors And Engineers

Would doing NROTC (Marine Option) throw my engineering degree away?
I’m planning on going to a good engineering school to get my Electronics Engineering degree. I’m also planning on doing NROTC (Marine Option) and becoming a commissioned officer in the USMC. My hope is that after 6 years or possibly 20 years of the military, i can work for Lockheed Martin, Boeing, or another big time defense contractor as an engineer or a different high paying job. What I’m asking is that if i don’t use my degree for 6-20 years, will it be useless and not allow me to get a job with a large defense contractor since the engineering fields advance so much so fast?
I know there are no jobs in the Marine Corps that would go with my degree, that’s why I’m wondering if I’d be throwing my degree away. I’m becoming a Marine regardless, I’m just wondering.
Old engineers saying: the nouns change but the verbs remain the same. If your degree is not in a field of engineering that is too specialized (ie stick to the biggies like me or ee) the management experience you get in the Corps can only help you.
