California Contractors Contracts

If I signed a design and build contract for home improvement?

Am I obligated to build with the contractor even if I am unsatisfied with their price, and service? I am in California.

Yes, you are. If you weren’t happy with the price, why did you sign the contract?

If the work has been done and the workmanship is questionable, or if they used “bait & switch” tactics, or they added on change orders that you didn’t sign an agreement for you may have a legitimate claim (based on your question, however, it appears that you have not started construction yet).

If you really want out of it, contact an attorney who specializes in construction law. He may be able to negotiate something for you (or get you out of it completely). Design/Build is very expensive, so whatever you spend on a lawyer might be money well spent.

If you have a bona fide complaint with the contractor contact the CSLB: http://www.cslb.ca.gov/consumers/infocomplaint.asp
