contractor change order
Can I legally make a change to a contract I signed?

I am buying two windows and a new patio slider. The representative called me today to tell me that he made a mistake and needed to re-do the paperwork He did not tell me what the mistake was. I am thinking of just having the windows done and put off doing the patio. I don’t think they have ordered anything as yet and I have not received a call from the installer for the final measurements. I am not canceling but I want to make a change in the contract. Do you see a problem with this? I am putting it out there before I speak to the representative. there is a part on the paperwork that states the agreement cannot be changed or modified in anyway unless such changes are in writing and signed by the buyer and the contractor. I am not sure if that means the person I’ve been dealing with or the person who will be actually putting in the windows.

If he wants to alter the contract, he can only do it with your written approval, likewise if you want to alter the contract, you can only do it with his written approval. Now is the time to do it because he is the one who wants to make changes (probably because he screwed up). If the new changes are not to your liking he may allow you to either cancel or alter it to your liking. Don’t sign the new contract until you read it and understand it completely. It is very possible that he gave you the wrong pricing and it could be to your advantage.
