hi i am looking for advice on employment on should i strike or what?
i recently started new job five weeks ago as a carpenter in ireland working for a sub contractor who is building council houses .when i started i was originally told we would be getting paid in two weeks then in a month s time now 5 long weeks later i still havent gotten money although promised two days i know few others didnt get paid either what rights do we have what would u do if it was help i going in tomorrow
No, you can’t strike. You can only strike if this is legitimately organised by a union. Otherwise it’s not striking; it’s walking out of work.
You should go to the CAB as soon as you can, even if this means taking time off to do so. Take with you a copy of your contract of employment which should state what date you should be paid, and take any other documentation that you have that you think may be relevant. They will be able to inform you of what steps to take next.
You cannot just walk out of work, even if you haven’t been paid. To do so is breaching your contract. Yes, your employer has breached contract by not paying you, but you need to remain in the right if you want to see this resolved.
