Contractor Labor Rates

What is the typical per sq ft labor cost of bathroom WALL tiling in Los Angeles?

We just bought a house in the West LA area, and we are remodeling the bathrooms. Our contractor quoted us for just labor (we bought the tiles), $5 per sq ft for floor tiling and $19-20 per sq ft for wall tiling (including shower walls). We were surprised there was such a large difference in the labor cost of floor vs. wall tiling It seems to make sense that wall tiling might be a bit more because you have to work against gravity, but $19-20 vs. $5 seems to be a lot. Are these rates reasonable?

The adhesive and grout used for wall tile are much harder to work with and clean. Wall tiles are a bit harder to align and, as you observed, keep from moving. This means the labor costs will be increased. But not %300. I work in a place where labor costs are much lower than in L A. However, the difference in my pricing is around $3 for floor and $4.50 to $5 for wall tile.
Now, if the tile installer is building a mortar shower bed as well as tiling, he could be including the cost for this in the price per ft. If not, there is no reason to accept such a high price.
