Contractor Production Report
Am I better off as an employee with a W-2 or an independant contractor with a 1099?
I am starting a new job on Monday. It is a 40 hr/wk, M-F position in the entertainment production industry. I will be reporting to a supervisor at an office. This position will last half a year.
I am confused because the contract lists me as an Independant Contractor. But shouldn’t this position be under Employee status? I’m not setting my own hours or working from home. How do I gracefully discuss this with my future employer?
I am currently an independent contractor and what that means is that you will not be getting taxes taken out of your income. If it is a job where you travel you should keep track of your mileage, and reciepts for everything work related. When tax time comes around you will use all your records to use as deductions on your income to hopefully keep you from having to pay as much tax.
