contractor saws
we hired a contractor who said he was licensed.found out he wasn’t..work was horrible. what can we do now?

we hired a contractor to do major work on our house after a flood. we were out of town during the majority of the work and only saw it in progress. we paid him in full and he never finished…he said he ran out of money. the work he did complete looked like our toddler did it. he said he was licensed and we have since found out he was and is not since 2007. neither did he obtain the permit he said he had. what can we do legally?

Do any of the contracts you have signed have a license number on it? Evidently so for you were able to find it had expired..any buisness cards, contracts or any billing sheets he has given you that may suggest he was licensed on is a big plus…The licensing board for your state will fine the hell out of him..plus this in a legal court of law is called “FRAUD”..he fraudulantly got the job becuase he was licensed…Small claims court will do you no good for if your house was flooded, I know already the cost was over 5 thousand dolars..which is the usual amount max in most states for small claims…You will only recover a partial cost..You can actually file criminal charges on him for fraud and be TOTALLY REIMBURSED for what you have paid him..even if he did do some work..for it was fraudulently obtained….Also any verbal agreements where he stated he was licensed and people were prezent when he did so..get written affidavits from them for court…Get a good lawyer as well for there are other items you can recover from if you can prove any stress..or inconveinces from his illegaly obtained job you gave him…Why don’t you give us the name of the company and persons name he contracted under..plus the city and state..I can do some other research as well on this..and submit it to the licensing board for you
