If a foreign contractor brings a team of workers from Europe to the UK, pays their fares and accommodation,…?

…how can he afford to pay the same pay rates to those workers that locals would get?

This is an old trick, and an ugly one.
He may pay them the same… and then deduct for their food, their residence, their expenses, their airfare, and they are glad for it, because they are at least making some money.
He makes even more money by charging them full price for shoddy housing, restaurant prices for mass dinners, full fare airplane rates for coach accommodations, and he penalizes them for days not worked, illness, or anyone who must go back home.
It’s an old trick, and the only losers are the foreign workers, the local workers, the quality of work, the cost to redo it, the tax man, the families of all of the above, etc.
BUT… the foreign contractor makes £ so it’s alright. Maybe even enough for some kickbacks???
