How can I get a contractor to work on a house?
I inherited a fairly large house in Victorian style. It is in desperate need of maintenance, such as roofing, repair and painting adjustment, repair of asbestos, wiring and plumbing. I called almost all contractors in the telephone or at local businesses. Most of them do not even return my calls, and I can directly reach or are too busy, not service my area or not do residential work (I would say that in their ads). I also tried Service Magic, but the few that did respond to my questions yielded estimates very high – as one who wanted $ 18,000 for making a roof area. I think $ 1800 would be a lot to the attic! Like I sais, some things need immediate attention. What is a good way to get a reputable contractor?
Old houses like that, although beautiful, require regular maintenance. If released, the damage can really add up $ $ $ $ quickly. It appears that you have some water damage already. The suggestion for an inspection with a good contractor is right on. Be able to give at least a ballpark figure of how long it will take to get the place back in decent shape. Be prepared to a very strong, and as a WAG I'd say it could approach $ 200 a square foot remodel. I know it sounds crazy again when some houses range between $ 100 sqm, but think of the work involved here. The house is likely to require extensive demolition work to begin, then mechanics is likely that we all need booted, replaced and brought up to code, and then finishing the job started. After the refurbishment of many older houses do know one thing – usually few steps backwards (smashing things) before they can be built back to today's standards and what that costs the $ $ $. Be patient, contractors are rather busy right now and will reach you soon. Good luck. I love old houses.
