Contractors Testing School
What exactly is keeping the US from converting to the metric system?
I’ve heard of millions of dollars in losses because of design systems which don’t match up because one contractor will be using one system, and most of the other contractors will be using metric. I see soda in bottles labeled with liters. My medical test come back in metric units, and so do my medicines. Who is holding back the change, the government, businesses, schools, or the general public?
My best guess is that most of this country’s population is too: indolent; self-indulgent; unwilling to put out the necessary intellectual energy required to master a different measurement system(or anything, that requires a meaningful degree of effort).
A good third of our population are “couch potatoes”, and seriously over-weight, etc., etc., etc. And our inept, only concerned with re-election politicians, don’t dare offend this segment of the electorate; because it would mean defeat for them at the polls.
And yes, I know; probably way-off base – but at least I feel a little better, getting this off my chest.
Cheers,
Alberich
