What to do in this situation?

You’ve hired one of your oldest and closest friends to do some work (deck/fence/yard). He’s a professional contractor. You paid him about 70% up front for materials, etc. Things didn’t get done for a couple months. Then he asks to borrow a large sum of money for a few weeks. The few weeks goes by and you agree to not have it paid back, as the work you hired him to do will be done within a month and you’d owe him that money upon completion. Months go by and very little has been done. Many times, promises have been made to have the work done by a certain date – all of those dates have come and gone. You’ve expressed your displeasure a few times. Little things have been done, but most of the work still remains. Another “I’ll have it done by..” date is approaching and it doesn’t look like it’ll be done this time either. What do you do? This is a VERY good friend who has come through for you many times in the past. But the continued delays are putting a strain on the friendship

Tough one. Try sitting him down and talking to him. Explain your friendship to him and that you want to help, BUT you want and neeed your deck/fence/yard worked on. Also advise him that you will be forced to pursue legal action if he doesnt fix it as promised.
I feel for you. You are in a tough spot. Good luck!
