Driveway in Block Paving, What foundations should there be ?

I am looking to have my front garden block paved to provide off street parking. I am intending to get a contractor in for this. The block paving needs to support a car. What should the contractor be doing for the foundation ?

I do a block paving amongst other things. They have to take your old drive away, depending on the material and height of your drive. Then many tons of hard core need to be raked out very evenly with the us of rakes, strings and spirit levels. Then the hard core needs to be wacked down with a wacker plate.
Then the same needs to be done with grit sand in a very accurate fashion and also wacked down with a wacker plate.
Then the surface is ready to lay the blocks. After this the blocks need to be wacked down with a wacker plate and very fine sand swept in between the blocks which does, if done properly provide a good solid drive way for many years.
