Which IT degree will help me work from home?
I am a young professional, almost 2 years out of college with a Bachelors in engineering, and I work in the Information Technology industry (I’m currently a software tester). I want to find a job I can do from home, but they are few and far between. Would a Masters degree (in Information Technology) help me find a telecommuting position? I want to work in software, not call-center stuff or telemarketing. Does anyone have tips on what telecommuting managers are looking for, or if there’s anything else I should be doing?
A side note – I work for the government as a contractor, and in my group the gov. employees are allowed to work from home once a week, but not the contractors. It’s frustrating!
Why not try to make yourself extremely valuable on your current contract by delivering consistent results? Then you might be able to make the case that the perk of working from home should be extended to contractors too. If you are able to prove how productive you are working from home, you might be able to increase the number of days that you work from home.
I don’t think obtaining a master’s degree would help you to get a telecommuting position.
