Are conditions favorable now for hiring a home remodeling contractor?

Are contractors “hungrier” now? Are prices of lumber falling? Can I get a better deal now because the market is depressed? What are the advantages to building now?

Materials have increased in price because of so much going to other countries (steel and concrete to China for one). The contractors still need to make a living, so they will not be giving their work away – they don’t need the practice.
