park contractors
How do I switch careers? How do I become a park ranger/forest ranger?

I served 6.5 years in the Navy as a nuclear power officer. My education is in Industrial and Systems Engineering. I’m currently a program manager for a defense contractor. But I don’t enjoy this job. How do I go about becoming a park ranger while supporting my family (i.e. not going back to school)? I know park ranger/ forest ranger jobs are hard to get, and you usually have to take seasonal work with the service, with the hopes of it leading to full time work. Is there any other way? Thanks.

You may want to review the information at the U.S.D.A. Forestry Service website at http://www.fs.fed.us USDA Forest Service, 1400 Independence Ave., SW Washington, D.C. 20250-0003, (202) 205-8333

The employment page is http://www.fs.fed.us/fsjobs/

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, information on obtaining a position as a conservation scientist or forester with the Federal Government is available from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) through USAJOBS, the Federal Government’s official employment information system. This resource for locating and applying for job opportunities can be accessed through the Internet at http://www.usajobs.opm.gov
