What is the process of registering your business to hire employees in Florida?

I own several companies in several states but never before have we hired employees (always contractors or partners). We just opened a new office in Tampa, FL and it has come to my attention Workmans Comp is not required for the first four employees. I have decided to bring one on – So far I have found I need to register the new hires online but not much more information has presented itself. Don’t I need to get a state employer number and what is the process with the IRS?
