Questions regarding being a Self Contractor?

Once im a Licensed Massage Therapist i will have a job at a Therapy Clinic for disabled children and adults. I will be a self contractor and get $39 per DM.

What are the Pros and Cons to that?

How does it work like with taxes?
Claim things like what? Gas to go to and from work? Or like gas to do in home massages?

As an independent contractor you’ll end up paying almost half of what you make in taxes. You will have to file a 1099 which states that you are an independent contractor and you pay your taxes at the end of the year. Now paying it would of your pocket at the end of the year might sound bad to some people, but as an independent contractor you’ll be able to claim many things and get a deductible.

You won’t have medical or any other kind of insurance. You’ll have to get them on your own, because you won’t necessarily be working for the clinic. The clinic is allowing you to “setup shop” so to speak to make money. So they won’t have to provide you with any type of benefits.
