Two In One Contractors

How to decide between two job offers?

I have tentatively received a job offer (contingent upon passing drug tests, etc.) from a company that is in a different industry than I have been working in (my current company & workload has declined-we are independent contractors). The new offer is great but now I have been approached by a direct company in my industry and line of expertise & they are tendering an offer. All things being equal, the benefits, etc. are the same essentially & the company in my industry is going to offer more $$.

Before I start working for Company A (1st offer), would I be a total crud to decline their offer and take the newer offer in the field I am in?

What’s a good way to choose between two offers and make the best decision for everyone, both companies and myself without feeling like a total schmuck and also ensuring I make the best decision all the way around?

Think about where you want your career to be in three or five years down the road and which role would give you the platform and support to get there. Then, have a very open and honest conversation with that company about your choice and seek to get color on how you can grow there and where they see you fitting in over the course of a few years.

After that, you need to make a decision and stick to it. It is fine and understandable to change your mind before you start a new job. What you don’t want to do is waffle back and forth or get into a bidding war between the two companies. All that would do is create a lot of bad will all around and raise questions on whether you can be decisive.
