Can my girlfriend live with me in England?

I am a US citizen and so is my girlfriend. I have been offered a job in England with a US-based government contractor. Before I accept the position, I want to ensure that my girlfriend can go to England with me so that we can live there together. How long can she stay with me in England, and if she has to leave after a set amount of time, how long would she have to stay gone? I plan to be at the job for at least 1 year and just want to make sure that she can be there with me most of the time. Thank you!

She can stay for 6 months without a visa, but she will have to prove that she has enough funds to support herself whilst she is here…she will not be able to get a job. Not sure how long a gap is needed till she can return again after the 6 months is up.
