Why do contractors have to use wood to build houses.?

every time i see a house under construction contractors use the wood to build everything, I think of all the millions of trees are felled to build houses. Is there a green contractors out there. Why do not use steel meter costs about the same. thanks.

ten time it would take more time to weld a house compared to nail guns. Guess What metal comes from the land as well.
